Projects and/or Research Interests

Barrett manages the State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Earthquake and Tsunami Hazards program. Day-to-day operations are focused on earth science in the public service with the goal of reducing the impact of future earthquake and tsunami events. A major component of this work involves working directly with Alaskans, helping them become more resilient in the face of ever-present hazards through education, planning, mitigation, and response. Barrett is a partner in the Alaska arm of the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program and is the current Chair of the Alaska Seismic Hazards Safety Commission.

Specific research interests include integrating earthquake geology and paleoseismology with high-resolution topographic analyses to characterize earthquake hazards and to understand the geomorphic evolution of active faults.
