Projects and/or Research Interests

The goal of my work is to better understand energy resource-bearing sedimentary basins by examining the nonmarine, shallow-marine, and/or deep-water strata that fill them. Lithostratigraphic and sequence-stratigraphic methods, as well as geologic and photogeologic mapping, are integral to my research, which commonly aims to determine what allogenic processes governed the observed stratigraphic architectures. Integrating outcrop and subsurface data is also an important aspect of my work, and DGGS's partnership with the Alaska Division of Oil and Gas is critical to these efforts. I also collaborate with geologists from federal agencies and academia, broadening the collective expertise that the DGGS Energy Resources section applies to its projects. My recent work focuses on employing high-precision detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology and structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetry in basin analysis, further expanding our research group's toolkit. My current projects range from the North Slope of northern Alaska to Cook Inlet of southern Alaska.
