Description:
DGGS has partnered with the City of Homer for comprehensive slope and coastal bluff stability analyses. The project, consisting of two sister Cooperating Technical Partnerships (CTPs), aims to identify and increase the understanding of landslide hazard risk within and around the community, increase the effectiveness of engagement opportunities with residents, and support local efforts to reduce landslide hazard risk with the ultimate goal of making Homer more resilient to landslide and coastal erosion hazards. DGGS collected high-resolution lidar data of Homer and nearby Kachemak in 2019 to generate new, high resolution bare-earth DEMs. DGGS is using the DEMs combined with updated oblique aerial photographs and existing imagery to complete an existing landslide inventory, shallow and deep-seated landslide hazard susceptibility maps including potential landslide runout extents as well as a coastal bluff stability map that incorporates both terrestrial and oceanographic factors.
